In Spain, FSE member FAGA becomes Unión de Guionistas

FAGA, a network of five regional organisations of screenwriters in Spain, has been a member of the Federation of Screenwriters in Europe since 2007, alongside another Spanish organisation of screenwriters, ALMA Sindicato de Guionistas, based in Madrid.

FAGA has just changed name and becomes the Unión de Guionistas – the union of screenwriters. This change of name is significant because it shows how this organisation, as many other FSE member organisations, has empowered, has grown in terms of numbers (it now represents more than 920 screenwriters) and capacity. Now, the Unión de Guionistas clearly affirms its role in defending the professional interests and rights of screenwriters in several regions of Spain: Andalusia, Catalonia, the Basque Country, Galicia and Valencia.

In his letter addressed to the FSE members, Angel Manzano, president of the Union of Guionistas and member of the FSE executive Committee, highlights the specificities of the Unión de Guionistas: “A network connecting regions, languages, realities and ways of storytelling. An organisation that believes in cultural diversity as an indispensable treasure and which defends that diversity against any form of homogenisation.”

The FSE executive committee congratulates Angel Manzano and the board of the Unión de Guionistas for their political engagement in choosing a strong name. FSE is not only the voice of screenwriters at European level, it is also a European network of national organisations of screenwriters that grow together, benefiting from their mutual capacity building through annual meetings, training programs, regular exchange of information, European-wide surveys and joint campaigns.

Union de Guionistas is composed of five regional organisations:

  • GIDOI – Asociación de Guionistas de Euskal Herria
  • EDAV – Escriptors de l’Audiovisual Valencià
  • CINA – Asociación de Cineastas de Andalucía
  • GAC – Guionistes Associats de Catalunya
  • AGAG – Asociación Sindical Galega de Guionistas
